Usually when planning an experiment that requires human participants you need to apply for ethical approval from the university and there are regulations in place to prevent any unethical research from taking place. Also if you are taking part in a research study as a participant then you need to state that you consent to taking part in the research so there are many checkpoints that need to be passed and therefore I think it is unlikely that any unethical research would pass these tests.
I am not a psychologist but there are laws and guidelines that prevent unethical behaviour in these kinds of professions. Anything that involves life, human or animal, is carefully monitored.
