• Question: Hello, I was wondering what is it like studying abroad? Also, is there anything that stood out to you when working in Sydney Australia? e.g. The workplace environment?

      Hi Lucas,

I found studying abroad very enriching – it broadened my view point. When I moved to the USA, it was my first time traveling and living out of India. It was a big change, I had to learn the way people work and behave quickly, and get used to a new society. Universities are diverse with people from all over the world, so I was not just exposed to American culture. Also, universities are very supportive environments so they are great place for first exposure. There was a culture shock involved but I think accepting it but being scared of it, helped me grow as a person. In short, it was a really fun experience and I would definitely recommend it.

I have travelled a lot, and lived in a few countries, and Sydney, Australia has been my favourite place so far. It is a fantastic city, and friendly too. In terms of work culture, USA had the most informal working style but at the same time the worst work life balance. UK to me seem extremely formal, but it does have great work life balance – no expectation to work on weekends. Australia was somewhere in the middle, it was definitely more structured and formal than USA, closer to UK. But at the same time they had great remuneration, benefits and work life balance – even better than UK.

Either it be studying or working, I would recommend getting an experience abroad if you can. But it may be easier to fit in and get started at the university level. Good luck and feel free to message back.
