Hi there, that’s such a good question. I really enjoy the part I part in research. I am part of a core tam, so we have expertise and skills that you might not pick up in your career. We are able to help investigators to produce mutant models so that they can do their experiements and find answers to the questions they want to answer. Sometimes what we do is give them more questions though. It can be a bit repeatitve, the job and tasks, but thats the nature of the field I am in and I dont think it takes anything away from the satisfaction I have for the job.

I hope that helps to answer your question. Thank you and good luck for the future

I do enjoy doing research as it is very varied and I feel like I am often learning something new. Like all jobs, there are elements that are a bit repeptitive but I really like the people I work with so even those tasks don’t feel boring. I would say I find research frustrating some times, as it can take a while to see outcomes of experiments, but never boring.

This is an excellent question. I really enjoy research, especially because it is one of those rare jobs where I am constantly reading and learning more about topics that I already find interesting. Most days are quite fun and I often get to do a different experiment every week. At the same time, some days can feel long and frustrating because things go wrong and you have to repeat an experiment or you have to wait for results that don’t give you the answer you expected. But I have never been bored at my job and I find that I can get through the tougher days because I am so interested in the scientific questions that I am researching!

I really enjoy research and although it can get repetitive (redoing the same experiments over and over or using the same techniques quite a lot), it is always interesting to me. I am always working towards answering a question so that is motivating.

Boring probably isn’t the right word, it can get repetitive and frustrating, but there’s always something to tinker with and usually improve on an experiment.

Research is absolutely not boring, administration and paper work definitely can be and that’s probably the worst part of my job but it’s essential to do it properly so I can do the fun stuff.

But overall yes, I love research. It’s hugely rewarding and you can normally do experiments when you what in what order you want!

I enjoy the involvement that I have in the research. Being in a core facility I don’t work on one project, rather I have a little part to play in quite a few. So for me, it doesn’t really get that boring. There are certainly boring and repetitive parts of my job, feeding thousands of fish can get a bit samey, however there’s a lot to do every day that’s different to the day before so that helps!
